Chapter 28 part I - Updated version

Skylar Gibson put the chilly glass of lemonade on the wooden table, glancing at the window. Her attention then shifted to the vintage clock plastered on the pastel wall of the petit café she was in, the smell of newly baked buns tingling the tip of her nose.

It was the first days of summer, and even though London was still oddly windy in all its glory, Sky could see the sun coming. As if even one of the gloomiest cities in the world wanted to shine. Looking down at the table as she unknowingly smiled to herself, she felt the tips of her hair brush her exposed shoulders. She wasn’t quite sure why she’d woken up a few weeks ago with a huge urge to head to the hairdresser, but at the time, it had felt right. And it still did.

So many things could happen in a matter of months. The more she thought about it, the longer she felt 4 months had passed. Incidentally, One Direction had gone on a tour in the US, and it had felt extremely surreal for her to watch them grow. She was really, genuinely proud, even though she had yet to bring herself to say so. What was she, exactly? Sure, Harry had told her he loved her, and it had been a blissful moment, and it felt like they were officially together. He however had certainly made no mention of her whatsoever to the media, which was reasonable she’d supposed, but would it be very selfish of her if she was to say she wanted an acknowledgement? 

Sky sighed at the thought, slightly shaking her head. These past few days, ever since she’d last seen Harry after his return from the US, her mind had been on constant loop, wondering just where they stood. The dinner they had was lovely, and he certainly looked as though he’d sincerely missed her, but then her confusion arose again as she watched him put on his beanie, hood and aviators on, before exiting the fancy restaurant.

It was beginning to feel like a game of tug of war, where she was pulled by his attraction and let go by his pride.

Her phone began to vibrate on the wooden table, and she’d thought it was Eva, her friend she was supposed to be meeting, before a very different name popped at the inbox notice. Harry.

Meet me in front of that French cafe on Oxford Str. at 1? :) Please please please tell me you can make it this time. I’ve missed you .xxx

And just like that: butterflies galore. She had always been secretly able to make their dates, most of the time at least, but Harry surely had no idea each time she had claimed she had a family gathering to attend - or was down with a mild yet contagious flu that needed no visit from him or else he could be infected thus fail his duty as an international popstar - she’d spent in her bed, moping around whilst her mind wondered how Harry’s worked.

Tapping her fingers against the table, she began typing a response: No aunt’s bday or hives detected today. Should be able to make it. :) I’ve missed you too xx

“Sky?”

Sky’s head whipped around at the mention of her name. Her eyes then landed on a familiar auburn haired girl. Except contrary to the girl she’d once known, the girl in front of her was oozing confidence, her long hair shining. It was curled at the end, and it complimented the emerald green dress she had on her pale, porcelain skin.

The two girls immediately engulfed each other in a big hug, as they slightly jumped up and down. Eva had taken an early leave from school after taking her end of semester exams in order to go on vacation to Florida with her family, and Sky hadn’t seen her since. 

In no time, the two were engaged into fits of laughter in the midst of their conversation about year 12 and their upcoming senior year. Oddly enough, as opposed to most girls’ first topic, they had yet to cover the topic of boys. Just then, Sky’s gaze accidentally landed on the charm bracelet on Eva’s wrist, with one particular charm catching her eye. A clover.

Sky smiled at the realisation, and it was then when the other charms became clearer as well: a heart; a guitar; a book; and a slice of pizza. After introducing Eva to Niall Horan prior to One Direction’s tour in the US, Sky had heard the two hit it off well as friends, and there were certainly teases coming from the one and only Louis Tomlinson. Normally this situation would be seen rather cliché, with Niall’s previous attraction to Sky and what not, but that silly thought never crossed Sky’s mind. After all, she had always seen him as a brother; and ultimately, a best friend. He was an amazing person, and she couldn’t afford the risk of losing him just because she hadn’t been able to reciprocate his feelings. Looking at the charm bracelet now, though, Sky’s thought about the matter was long gone.

“Did Niall give you that?” Sky asked, a hint of playfulness in her voice. Knowing Niall was happy made her happy.

Eva evidently blushed, and straightened up in attempt to hide her nervousness. “Did the pizza give it away?” She asked, followed by the two’s laughs. Sky responded with a shrug, before Eva tucked her hair behind her ear. “Thank you… For introducing him to me.”

Sky looked up, a genuine smile tugging at the end of her lip. “You’re most definitely welcome. You two are happy together, right?”

“Well I am. Very much so.” Eva responded, and Sky felt a huge weight being lifted from her shoulders, replaced with the sincere happiness for her two friends. 

The two chatted for some more, their stories mainly revolving around the two boys taking up the biggest space in each of their heads, one being Eva’s new boyfriend Niall, and the other, of course, being Harry, Sky’s whatever-he-was. Half an hour quickly passed, and before they’d both known it, Eva had to leave.

After staring blankly at her empty cup, Sky slowly stood up, packed her stuff, and began heading for the door, her head fixed on her Toms. She’d been too busy not caring about her surroundings as she got out of the cafe, her eyes on the concrete ground, before they met a pair of black, scruffed sneakers.

Looking up almost immediately, a man in his mid 30s met her gaze, his eyes oozing friendliness. “Lovely to meet you, Miss Gibson.” He spoke. It was not even noon and the man in front of her stood exhausted, the collar of his grey polo t-shirt covered with meat sauce. He opened the door to a fancy black car Sky hadn’t previously noticed existed behind him, and waved his hand inwards. “We’re rather falling behind schedule. Fret not though, my driving skills will get us there in no time.”

There? What there? “Uh… Who are- uh sorry, I actually have something planned out at noon-” Sky managed to let out, in the midst of confusion and fear she’d felt when the man’s hand landed on the top of her back, gently urging her to get in.

The man let out a friendly laugh, and Sky wondered if she’d heard right: what if it had been a sinister laugh? “I’m sure he won’t mind,” was the last thing she had heard before she’d found herself climbling in.

Guys, first of all, we’d like to say that we’re terribly sorry for neglecting this story for a long time now, but here it is!

Second; like all journeys, The Beautiful Cupid has come to its end. This was part 1 of the last chapter, we’ll try to post the 2nd part asap: and then we’re going to post an epilogue. and yes it does continue, sadly though, The Beautiful Cupid has only one more chapter left and then an epilogue. :/ xx
